The Persecuted Church

The numbers are heart-breaking. And yet, they do not tell the whole story. James 1:2-4 says,
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”
That joy is what we see when we hear and work with Christians all over the world who suffer because they serve Jesus. God cares for His people, and He will never leave or forsake them.
The Word of God tells us that persecution is coming, in fact it’s coming in greater and greater measure.
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, “How long, O Lord, holy and true, until You judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11Then a white robe was given to each of them; and it was said to them that they should rest a little while longer, until both the number of their fellow servants and their brethren, who would be killed as they were, was completed. (Revelation 6:10-11)
The power of prayer can change nations. We know that God is working His plan to draw the nations to Jesus! We cannot see all that God sees, we don’t have the vision and plan He has to bring in the greatest number of salvations with the least amount of destruction. His ways are higher and better than ours. We pray, Your Kingdom come on the earth as it is in heaven.
For thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land; and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to The Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,’ says the Lord of hosts. (Haggai 2:6-7)
JESUS will be the great reward for the persecuted and the persecutors will be the inheritance of JESUS.
Jesus is the Desire of All Nations. There is a shaking going that is unto salvation for the nations. As we pray, fast, give, go, and send we have salvation as the end goal! This is a crisis with a purpose like none other. As the enemy stirs up persecution against the children of God, he is backing himself into a corner of defeat.
- Over 340 million Christians living in places where they experience high levels of persecution and discrimination
• 4,761 Christians killed for their faith
• 4,488 churches and other Christian buildings attacked
• 4,277 believers detained without trial, arrested, sentenced or imprisoned
Persecution of Christians has been a reality since the days of the Roman Empire. Now, 2,000 years later, Christians are the most persecuted people group on the planet. Paul gives us insight on how to pray for our persecuted family.
And I want you to know, my dear brothers and sisters, that everything that has happened to me here has helped to spread the Good News. For everyone here, including the whole palace guard, knows that I am in chains because of Christ. And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear. (Philippians 1:12-13)
Strength. Boldness. Perseverance. These are the characteristics we pray overwhelm our persecuted brothers and sisters. Persecution is coming to every nation. Even here in America, we have begun to see the rights of Christians stifled through the monitoring of our speech. The world sees the truth of The Word of God as hate, when in reality it is the truth that will set the people free to be who God created them to be. The world rebels against the very truth they were created to know and embrace. It’s a battle for souls and Jesus wins in the end.
Christians are persecuted in numerous ways.
- court systems & laws against Christians’ speech and ways of life
- financial & social penalties for not submitting to the government religious system
- destruction of homes & church buildings
- relational ties broken by families with opposing religions
- physical beatings & torture, imprisonment, no due process
- public humiliation as a message to others
- denial of Government relief in times of crisis
We will fast, pray, give, go, and send for our persecuted family…until the glory of God covers the earth as the waters cover the sea!
